INTO THE LIGHT!
“Father forgive them they know not what they do!”
It was several years before I came to realization that these words were the simple truth; human beings are blinding groping forward in certain areas of existence, one such is the area of motivation.
This is because human beings who had developed consciences had to be capable to using force, and this was not possible if they were conscious of what they doing.
The use of force was consigned to the unconscious and as a consequence human beings were capable of the acts, the sometimes brutal and savage acts necessary for survival.
If proof were required that the abovementioned statement is true what needs to be considered is the fact that the degree and extent to which coercion can be applied to individuals in Western Civilizations has been dramatically reduced in every social institution – without creating an alternative means of motivating the patterns of behavior necessary for continued positive development or for societal order.
As a consequence production and productivity has lagged in the workplace; we are no longer able to socialize our young; we are experiencing high, unprecedented divorce rates; governments are no longer able to achieve any objective; and, we confront an ever rising tide of crime and drug abuse.
Most indicative of our ‘blindness’ is the fact that we are unaware that all these problems has a root cause, low levels of motivation, that we are attempting to create functioning democracies while relying still on coercion, much reduced and diminished levels of coercion to motivate the other; and are unaware that this cannot work.
And, there is no going back for humanity, the journey that began when nations began to attempt to create governments of the people, for the people, by the people must be completed; there is no turning back for the members of those populaces who have begun to travel the arduous road from subject to citizen – because of the weapons of mass destruction we have created and that now can be accessed by more and more individuals.
The 911 attack has resulted in a curtailment in freedoms, in a popular reduction in freedoms in the largest democracy on earth, the USA; consider the consequence if one weapon of mass destruction is unleashed anywhere on the planet, the destruction and panic that would result would bring to an end the experiment in democracy.
It is time for all human beings to examine the use of force from a moral perspective, we cannot challenge its efficacy it is obvious that human beings were driven up the steep incline towards civilization; that since we have placing restrictions and limitations on the use of coercion progress has slowed appreciably, to the point were stagnation has occurred in some societies.
But we can challenge the morality of one human being using force to motivate another; we can raise the question as to whether any human being has the right to treat another as prey as a source of energy.
It is clear that this is a powerful tradition; the slave of the not too distant past lived to satisfy the needs, wants and desires of his master, without any consideration of his or her needs.
Some human beings continue to be trapped in this mode of interaction; for example, some individuals exclusively engage in sexual relations with prostitutes replicating the autocratic relations of the past.
Some politicians would love to recreate the tyranny and absolute power of the past, but there is no going back because human civilizations would be destroyed could never support the responses to the abuses and injustices such tyrannies would produce; even if the most draconian methods of suppressing dissent were employed, what this would produce is a vicious circle of destruction and despair.
We must forge ahead and complete the transformation of human societies by substituting positive reinforcements for the coercion of the past.
The man called Jesus also provided the means to complete this transformation, if we tell the truth the truth will make us free.
This is the ultimate paradox and consummate irony of human existence; we live in a society, in which the path of individual or organization to wealth, success or power cannot endure the searchlight of truth, complete exposure would result in their complete ruin, yet we cannot progress, cannot enter the brand new world that embracing positive reinforcements could create without practicing the discipline of truth.
I am trapped in this paradox; exploring this paradox has left me completely isolated from family and friends.
A close family member is someone with whom I have shared so many experiences that I can open the door to the closet in which lives their skeletons and cause these skeletons to dance for the entire world, given my easy access to the World Wide Web.
A close friend is in a similar position; most of my close friends once worked in the oil refinery where I spent the first decade of adult employment, they, every one of them stole gasoline continuously, I stopped after two years of that practice.
I can speak about it, they cannot.
This is the difference between me and everyone human being I know, I can admit my mistakes, and as a consequence have ceased making these mistakes. Everyone I know represses their moral failings and is repeating them, over, and over again.
They hate me, all my family and friends, for telling the truth for this exposes the gulf between concept and precept in their lives. Yet the only way I can attain my objective of creating the possibility of happiness for the wretched of this earth is to tell the truth.
It makes me capable to describing problems accurately the necessary prerequisite to their solution. Telling the truth will not have this effect if, like most human beings, I tell the truth opportunistically or diplomatically, I will only be able to solve social problems without regard to the consequences.
I have borne the burden of this paradox for three decades, I have been the victim of this consummate irony implicit in the fact that human societies evolved from a ‘state of nature’ for thirty years the period during which I have adopted the discipline of truth and this has led me to, made it impossible for me to do other than act to achieve the common good.
The irony is that human beings did not choose to rely on coercion it was the only model of social interaction available to them, not to become expert in using force would mean that the race would not have survived. But the habit of using force is so deeply embedded in human culture that they cannot change, and the development of mass destruction will probably result in the destruction of human civilizations and will certainly result in the end of the experiment in democracy.
If my behavior over the last decade has seemed quixotic and self destructive it is because I have been engaged in the exercise of futility of trying to communicate this information and to get other human beings to appreciate the danger of this ultimate paradox and consummate irony of our shared history.
But it is clear that the mechanism that permits the use of coercion is so deeply embedded in culture, is so pervasive and monolithic that my puny attempts to expose it have come to nothing.
I am becalmed in Memphis, Tennessee with no income, and bereft of the assistance of family and friends.
But I did stir the compassion of a Good Samaritan; he saw me in a parking area in, of all places, Olive Branch, Mississippi and gave me Nine Dollars on one occasion and Twenty Dollars on a second occasion.
He ignited the hope that they are other individuals who would respond so that I could continue to prosecute my magnificent and futile, thus far, obsession.
So I am going to do what I have never done before, solicit donations.
This is what I will be attempting in the future and what you will be donating to:
It is my intention to establish the Voice of Peace Foundation in Olive Branch, a location that became irresistible to me the moment I heard its name, since the olive branch was the first symbol of peace. The Foundation will be composed of men and woman who practice the discipline of truth and commit to relying on positive reinforcements in their relations with other human beings.
It will also be dedicated to eradicating poverty by promoting that cooperation replaces competition as the ethos of human societies and that open ended systems of reward for all producers with the goal of create equity in human societies.
It will promote the adoption of statutory limitations in democracies with the goal of limiting government spending; the ultimate goal is that governments spending is in line with the revenue earned, and can only be increased when natural increases in revenue occur motivating politicians to craft policies and implement programs that result in economic development.
It will promote the notion that poverty cannot be defeated at the level of national government, at this level it is too gigantic, unmanageable and unwieldy a task; that this scourge can be defeated when cooperation replaces competition as the ethos of society and also by mobilizing communities to provide jobs, housing, healthcare, education and adequate nutrition for the members of that community.
The war on poverty will be manageable and winnable if it is fought community by community. For example, healthcare workers should be recruited from the community by identifying the most meritorious students and paying for them to acquire the skills that would serve the community and preserve its health, and those who receive these scholarships must contract to serve the community for an agreed period of years at a previously negotiated salary.
It will promote the building of a center that will be the focus of sports and cultural activities for the community; that will provide after school care and help with homework, a location manned and staffed by parents who will be encouraged to volunteer.
It will promote the reintroduction of corporal punishment in schools to provide the means for teachers to maintain the order necessary for the learning process. A recommendation will be made that a fund will be created to increase the salaries of teachers to the point where this profession can begin to attract the best minds and most dedicated members of the workforce consistent with the fact that this is most important skill to the success of the nation especially while the transition from competition to cooperation occurs.
This salary increase will be funded by voluntary contributions of citizens.
If you think this is a vision you share, I welcome your donations, which should be no larger than Fifty Dollars and on less that Five Dollars and should be made to:

This is a desperate expedient but is much more likely to work than the prescriptions being offered by any existing political party or organization.
In fact investing in any existing political movement for the majority of individuals is like putting money in a slot machine in Las Vegas, the percentage pay out is fixed, so that only a few can win.
Paying taxes to any government has the same effect, no matter what party of whatever ideology is in power, the winners are the five per cent who control ninety per cent of the wealth.
A gamble on me is a much better bet than buying the million to one shot in the various lotteries which offer a prize of ten million dollars of which five millions dollars never reaches the winner but goes back to the government in taxes.
The difference between me and any other politician is that I am dedicated to the common good and cannot be bought at any price, and I have proved this over a long period, check out my web site at voiceofpeace.net and blogger.com. I am an honest politician.
I deserve to be kept around even if it is only for nuisance value.
